A small Jewellery Quarter practice that works like a referral centre

Teeth & Face occupies a Grade II listed terracotta building in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter and belongs to one dentist: Dr Gurprit Jandu founded it and is named at the Care Quality Commission as both its registered manager and nominated individual. Care is private throughout. What separates it from the city’s other boutique cosmetic surgeries is the bench of visiting specialists who hold sessions in its rooms, and the referrals it takes from other dentists.

Treatments and services

Day to day the work is cosmetic and restorative: Invisalign and other teeth straightening, composite bonding, veneers, ceramic crowns, invisible fillings, enamel contouring, hygiene therapy, smile makeovers and emergency appointments. Whitening runs on the Enlighten B1 and White Dental Beauty systems. Facial aesthetics share the premises but not the operator.

Clinicians

Dan Saund, consultant and specialist oral surgeon, holds a consultant post at Birmingham Dental Hospital and is clinical lead for oral surgery at Sandwell General Hospital; implants, wisdom teeth and difficult extractions are his. Monica Campos Gallego, MSc in periodontics and a member of the BSP, SEPA and the European Federation of Periodontology, works solely on gum disease, recession surgery and full-mouth disinfection. Jesal Savania, an endodontist, saves teeth under a Zeiss microscope and takes referred root canals. Dr Faraz Hamid covers straightening, bonding and veneers; Dal Kalsi has practised hygiene therapy for over fifteen years; the facial side belongs to Dr Cat Leng, a plastic surgeon.

Technology and nervous patients

Scans are taken on an iTero Lumina, which renders the proposed smile on the patient’s own face at the first visit; aligner progress is followed with Dental Monitoring. Surgeries are private rooms with an air exchange system. Against anxiety the founder draws on a diploma in clinical hypnosis and training in NLP; sedation, intravenous included, is there when talking is not enough.

People who want cosmetic work and a specialist opinion — gum surgery, oral surgery, a stubborn root canal — without a hospital waiting list; dentists with someone to refer; and anyone whose fear of the chair needs handling rather than overriding. Those seeking NHS care need another practice.
