The UK’s first Invisalign-only practice, and the clinic a national network grew out of

MiSmile Birmingham is not a branch of a chain — it is the original. Dr Sandeep Kumar opened it in the city centre in 2014 as the country’s first surgery to work on Invisalign alone; a year later the MiSmile Network — now over 150 independent member practices UK-wide — was built on the back of it. It stayed its own private business and still does one thing far more than any other: move teeth with clear aligners.

Treatments and services

More than 6,000 straight smiles have been finished here, from short front-tooth courses to full-arch corrections, closed off with whitening, bonding and Vivera retainers. Beyond aligners: whitening in the chair or with take-home trays, bonding for chips and gaps, and makeovers built from white fillings, crowns and veneers. General care runs alongside: routine examinations, direct-access hygienist appointments and implants.

Technology

An iTero scanner replaces impression trays and produces a digital 3D simulation, so each tooth’s predicted movement is visible before you agree to treatment. Aligners are cut from Invisalign’s SmartTrack thermoplastic. Implants use Straumann components, planned on 3D imaging, the crown designed from a digital scan rather than putty, with bone grafting or a sinus lift first where the jaw needs it.

The team

Dr Sandeep Kumar holds Invisalign’s Diamond Apex provider status, reached by only a handful of dentists in Europe, and lectures for Align Technology. Day to day, Invisalign-certified dentists Oliver Smart, Abir Beshay and Ghizali Shaikh treat, with Jas Poonian as implant practitioner and a long-serving hygienist alongside them.

Is this a branch of the MiSmile Network? The other way round — this is the founding practice, independently run; the network of member practices came after it.

Anything besides Invisalign? Yes: whitening, bonding, crowns and veneers, hygiene, examinations and implants were all added to the original aligner-only offering.
